An attempt to jumpstart a stunted white crappie fishery on a Missouri reservoir hasn't panned out, according to a recent study from a state fish biologist. But some anglers are plenty happy with a major side effect of the failed plan: A hybrid striped bass fishery.

Study looks at cross-stocking striped bass in struggling N.C. fishery
Years of concerted striped bass management in North Carolina's Roanoke River and Albemarle Sound have built a thriving fishery that draws thousands of anglers a year. A recently published study takes a look at how the striper broodstock that played a role in that recovery have fared when stocked in other rivers in the state where the species continues to flounder.

Every fall striped bass move from the saltwater of the the San Francisco Bay up into the freshwater of the San Joaquin-Sacramento River Delta. For striped bass on Lake Powell, follow the boils and then the ravens
Wayne Gustaveson showed up for work as a fisheries biologist on Lake Powell a year after striped bass were first stocked in the reservoir. He says he "grew up" with that fishery in the sprawling canyon-filled reservoir straddling the Utah-Arizona border, both as a manager and an angler. "This lake is incredible," he said. "It's the most exciting fishing you can do on freshwater, on beautiful blue water under red rocks."
Hatchling striped bass stocked in South Carolina waters
The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources has stocked several water bodies in the state with hatchling striped bass, according to The Greenville News. More than 280,000 went into Lake Hartwell alone. Stocking in other areas helped push the total number of bass added to 458,000. Fisheries biologists say the baby fish will grow to good, catchable sizes in a couple of springs.
