Louisiana Angler Catches 13-Pound Toledo Bend Bass

One cast was all it took for Louis Slaughter, of Florien, Louisiana, to reel in a big bass from Toledo Bend Reservoir. The monster that he pulled in weighed a total of 13.15 pounds and stretched just over 26 inches long!

In describing his big catch to Louisiana Sportsman, Slaughter says that the weather in the morning was kind of bad and so he and his son almost didn’t go out. But they didn’t want to waste a trip and decided to launch their boat a little bit out and throw a few lines. This took them to a part of the reservoir they don’t typically visit, and may have helped them to find the big bass.

After his first cast, Slaughter says that he felt something stop it during its fall and immediately thought that he had snagged on a log or some other structure. When he began to reel it in, the force pulling back made him think he had hooked a catfish somewhere near the bottom. But once he got the big bass to the surface, it was clear that it was a bass.

Slaughter used a modified Strike King “sexy shad shadalicious swimbait” to catch the big bass. The fish has since been tagged and released after joining the Toledo Bend Lunker Program.
