With the kickoff of the major bass tours over the last couple weeks, all of us up here in the north are starting to think spring and open water. There are always a bunch of new products out there just waiting to be put to the test, here are a few that caught my eye.
Jackall – Rerange
You can definitely tell this bait was designed with attention to detail. I spent a little time last year with this jerkbait and it just flat out caught them. I anticipate it getting a lot more use this year especially in the 130 size. It’s erratic action, large size, and attractive colors appeal to bass and many other species. You’ll find it casts like a rocket thanks to an internal weight transfer system. The transfer system will make an audible click when casting and that takes some time to get used to.
FishSens –SondeCAM Telescoping Pole Mount
This will take a SondeCAM to those hard to reach places like up under docks, into flooded timber, and around seawalls. It has some reach as it extends from 63″ to 108″. The camera attaches to the pole mount via a R.A.M. ball attachment allowing for infinite angle adjustment. It is also a great strategy for steadying the camera to get some great footage.
Blackfish – Aspire Rain suit
A newcomer into the raingear market is Blackfish Gear out of Minnesota. The Aspire is available as lightweight jacket s and bibs and are designed for the warm summer months being both breathable and waterproof. Unlike many rain suits washing is encouraged as it will keep it mold free and breathable. This premium rain suit also comes with a durable water repellant finish.
Beast Coast –Marauder
To my knowledge, pictures of the actual production bait haven’t even been released. But based on the drawings released on Beast Coast’s social media, it looks like it could earn a spot in my tackle box. Designed as a flipping bait and measuring in at 4.25 inches with 10 colors expected in the initial release, it also claims to have a unique action. I’ll definitely be watching for its official release.
Bass Mafia – Ice Box Casket
Tackle storage and organization just keeps getting more specialized and popular. The ice box is made from the same durable material the bait coffins are but instead of black/red they are clear. Contents are readily seen without opening the box. These are a smaller 3600-size which are great for terminal tackle or for when you need to be packing light.
